How does Tirzepatide work?

Tirzepatide is an injectable medication that works by mimicking two natural hormones in our body: glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones play a crucial role in regulating blood sugar and appetite.

How does it achieve this?

  • Increases insulin production: When blood glucose levels rise after eating, tirzepatide stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin. Insulin helps glucose enter cells and be used for energy.
  • Reduces glucose production in the liver: Tirzepatide also reduces the amount of glucose the liver releases into the bloodstream, helping to maintain more stable sugar levels.
  • Slows gastric emptying: By slowing digestion, tirzepatide makes you feel full for longer, which helps control appetite and reduce calorie intake.

What has the FDA approved it for?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved tirzepatide for two main indications:

  • Type 2 diabetes: It is used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
  • Chronic weight management: It has been approved to help adults with obesity or overweight (without diabetes) lose weight, especially those who also have other weight-related conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or sleep apnea.

Additional benefits

In addition to its effectiveness in managing diabetes and weight loss, tirzepatide has been associated with other benefits, such as:

  • Reduced blood pressure: By helping to control weight and improve insulin sensitivity, tirzepatide can help lower blood pressure.
  • Improved lipid profile: It can help reduce levels of “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and increase levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL).
  • Reduced cardiovascular risk: Some studies suggest that tirzepatide may reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes.

By activating GLP-1 receptors and reducing the effects of GIP, tirzepatide can improve glycemic control, promote weight loss, and enhance insulin sensitivity. A subcutaneous injection of tirzepatide has been shown to be safe and effective in clinical studies.

Instructions for use TIRZEPATIDE 60 mg

TIRZEPATIDE 60MG

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Step-by-Step Guide

Before you start: Wash your hands thoroughly.

Materials needed:

  • Vial of lyophilized Tirzepatide (10 mg)
  • Bacteriostatic water (10 ml)
  • Insulin syringes (U-100)
  • Syringe (5 ml)
  • Alcohol wipe

Steps:

Preparing the vials:

  • Remove the plastic top from both vials (Tirzepatide and bacteriostatic water). Do not remove the rubber stoppers.
  • Disinfect the top of both vials with an alcohol wipe.

Drawing up the bacteriostatic water:

  • Take the 5 ml syringe and draw up 2.4 ml of bacteriostatic water.

Dissolving Tirzepatide in bacteriostatic water:

  • Hold the Tirzepatide vial horizontally.
  • Carefully and slowly, inject the drawn-up bacteriostatic water into the Tirzepatide vial. Note: It is normal for the water to be absorbed quickly by the vial due to the vacuum.

Dissolving:

  • Gently roll the vial between your hands to mix the Tirzepatide with the bacteriostatic water.
  • Important: Avoid shaking the vial vigorously.
  • If preferred, you can let the vial rest for 20 minutes for the Tirzepatide to dissolve completely.

Storage:

  • Once dissolved, you can use the Tirzepatide immediately or refrigerate it.
  • Never freeze the Tirzepatide vial once diluted.

INJECTING TIRZEPATIDE

Complete dissolution: Ensure that the peptide powder is completely dissolved in the liquid and that there are no lumps.

Dosing Tirzepatide:

  • Tirzepatide solution is injected once a week, preferably on the same day each week.

  • Starting dose: Generally, start with a dose of 2.5 mg.

  • Dose increases: If necessary, the dose can be increased in increments of 2.5 mg each time, as long as there is no significant weight loss over a period of 3-4 weeks and good tolerance is observed.

  • Maximum dose: The maximum recommended dose is 15 mg.

  • Maintenance: Once the target weight is reached, it is possible to gradually reduce the amount of the doses or space out the frequency of the applications to every 15 days.

DOSING TABLE FOR SUBCUTANEOUS INJECTION
Dose equivalence: To facilitate use, Tirzepatide offers the same effective dose in all its presentations (10mg, 30mg, 60mg), minimizing the risk of errors in injectable dosing.

TIRZEPATIDE DOSE (mg) UNITS ON INSULIN SYRINGE
2.5 (minimum dose) 10
5 20
7.5 30
10 40
12.5 50
15 (maximum dose) 60

Important:

Unit of measurement: The amount of tirzepatide to be injected is measured in units using the U-100 insulin syringe, not in milligrams (mg). Follow medical instructions: Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the dose and frequency of injections.

Subcutaneous Injection Sites

The injection is administered subcutaneously, that is, under the skin, in areas with fatty tissue such as the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen (approximately five centimeters around the navel). Rotate the injection site each time you inject.

How to administer a subcutaneous injection

  1. Gather your supplies: (Tirzepatide vial, insulin syringe, alcohol pad).
  2. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
  3. Insert the needle into the rubber stopper of the vial, turn the vial upside down, and draw up the correct number of units as indicated in the Subcutaneous Injection Dosing Table.
  4. Pinch a section of skin between your thumb and index and middle fingers. Make sure you are only pinching skin, not muscle. The skin fold should be firm but not too tight.
  5. Push the needle completely into the skin at a 45-degree angle. Press the plunger completely, then release the skin and remove the needle.
